Ancient Egypt CircumcisionCircumcision is an age-old tradition that goes back as far as ancient Egypt. There are suspected depictions of male circumcision in the tombs of Ancient Egypt. Religion has been a driving force of the practice by commandments from the religious doctrines of Judaism and Islam. As time has went on, circumcision has almost become more of a newborn tradition and is done with most American male newborns. Other countries that have large circumcision rates are the Middle East and specific regions of Asia and Africa.

Other reasons have been stated for the need to carry out the circumcision procedure. In fact, as recently as March of 2007 the WHO (World Health Organization) and another organization called HIV TestingUNAIDS stated that male circumcision was effective at preventing the spread and transfer of HIV. You can find an article covering this announcement here. With HIV spreading at explosive rates in Africa, the circumcision procedure is touted even more there as a weapon against developing AIDS. There are also other medical claims about the prevention of urinary tract infection and penile cancer due to being circumcised.

With tradition and medical recommendations in full force, there is a growing group of men and doctors trying to put a stop to the default circumcision of adult males in the USA. Although there are doctors on both sides of the issue, there are very vocal doctors, like George C. Denniston, M.D. Mr. Denniston is the president of Seattle-based Doctors Opposing Circumcision. Mr. Denniston states, “Foreskin protects against disease; it doesn’t cause disease. If foreskin is unhygienic, eyelids should be considered unhygienic.” The Journal of the American Medical Association released research stating that they found no differences between circumcised and uncircumcised males and potential of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.AMA Logo

On December 9th, 2007 the Australian Medical Association announced it is backing a call for a circumcision ban. The press release can be found here at ABC’s Australian edition. The AMA’s Tasmanian President, Haydn Walters, said “There were quite a lot of folk myths around the advantages of circumcision. They’ve almost all been debunked.” The AMA does admit that there are rare circumstances where the procedure should be carried out. Another exception to the proposed ban is when the circumcision is to be carried out for religious reasons. Ironically, this is the exact reason the tradition of circumcision is in place today.

While the debate continues to try and come to a conclusion on whether medical professionals agree with circumcision an uprising of men are going a different route. Instead of debating whether to get a circumcision or not, there are companies, organizations and men promoting the idea to reverse the circumcision that was already carried out on them. What is the main reason these individuals and groups are promoting this idea? Sexual dysfunction.

Dr. Geoff Hinchley, a British emergency doctor has went public with his opposition of circumcision and says that circumcision is, “far from being a harmless traditional practice, circumcision damages young boys.” Mr. Hinchley sites a specific study done on the sensitivity and pressure sensations of circumcised and uncircumcised penises. Dr. Hinchley and the study bring up the point that the five most sensitive areas are removed during circumcision.4restore foreskin restore device

With new problems and objections, come the creations and innovations from companies offering a solution to men that are unhappy about their circumcised penises. The solutions are rarely for the squeamish in this area however, as they can include weights, tape, straps, suction and tension. Apparently, interest in UNcircumcision is growing quickly with one company called, 4restore.com, stating their stainless steel apparatus is increasing in sales by 15% each year. The increasing sales at these companies seem to go along with the trends of circumcision procedures being done across the country in America too. In the 1970s, 80 percent of American male infants were circumcised with that figure being closer to 60 percent today. The coast with the least circumcisions is the West Coast with only 34 percent of male infants being circumcised.TLC Tugger

Another person offering a solution to envious circumcised men is Ron Low, who has invented the conical silicone TLC Tugger. Mr. Low has been in the reversal circumcising industry since 2003 and claims to have sold 9,000 Tuggers. Mr. Low offers his opinion on why some men buy his products, “I hear from men that they want to look more like their son.” The argument that Low says he feels makes most sense is, “that nature wouldn’t produce a part that is harmful.”

Men that have had the procedures and products used on them say they welcome their new foreskin in their sex lives. Almost all men that have went through the process say they have regained sexual desire and sensitivity. Even though there are advocates promoting the new tools, the number of men complaining of lack of sensitivity due to having a circumcision are not that high. The debate is still a touchy issue with religious directives tied deep into family traditions and beliefs.Jewish MenorahWith the religious debate heating up, some non-Orthodox Jewish parents are thinking twice about the ceremony of circumcision. It is said that this ceremony is what initiates the baby into a covenant with God. The non-Orthodox Jewish parents are now looking into Jewish laws that say pain to any living thing is forbidden. Regardless of the religious conflicts having to do with circumcision, organizations and “inactivists” are popping up all around the country and even throughout the world. The true inventor of foreskin restoration, Wayne Griffiths, has co-founded a San Francisco based organization called NORM. NORM stands for National Organization of Restoring Men. NORM has grown their activist organization to Canada, Australia, Britain and New Zealand. Soon, you’ll have a helpful hand next door to you to show you the way to the new wave of rebellion, uncircumcision.

I am a 40 year old male and I am not circumcised. I have often wondered about role of the foreskin in how men approach sex with women. Most men I know are circumcised and almost all have a shove it in forget about foreplay attitude. For myself I cannot do that without pain to myself. If a woman is not ready to have to sex that I cannot get inside of her.

    Regards
    Steven Wright

I’ve had the cut.. and i feel a bit numb downstairs…………. Can I sue?

  3. on 15 Dec 2007 at 10:02 pmChris

That is an interesting perspective, Steven. I have always thought to myself that a circumcised male would be less sensitive (from not walking around sheathed) and more apt to have longer intercourse as a result.

Just shows you how much women have been in control!

As a kid in Australia in the 70’s I was the only boy in my year at school not circumcised. Then and today I’m at a loss for a rational explanation for its prevalence. There is so much sensation from the foreskin that I believe it is simply mutilation to remove it.

The foreskin produces smegma, which cleans and lubricates the glans. I’ve also found that the foreskin plays a mechanical role, as its elasticity and ability to slide back reduces the need for lubrication. That in itself should translate to less broken skin and less risk of contagion.

If we weren’t supposed to have foreskin than why are we born with them? Leave them alone, this is nothing more than a stupid Jewish tradition that has no real basis in being benneficial to health.

“MOST men I know are circumcised and ALMOST ALL have a shove it in forget about foreplay attitude.”

There’s your scientific study right there. I’m convinced.

Being circumcised I guess I’ll never really know what I’m missing. Having said that, sex without foreskin is still VERY enjoyable!

Right or wrong, harboring the resentment of being circumcised will have a much more negative effect on your sex life than a lack of foreskin.

When I have children I think ill leave the choice to them.

I’m a 39 year old male and I thank God I am UNcircumcised! I am the youngest of four brothers. We have a younger sis. My 2nd oldest brother is the only one of us that my parents had circumcised. According to my Mom’s account, it made my brother cry like Hell! She felt so guilty about it that she swore to NEVER have anymore of her sons circumcised! PERIOD! I could never understand the logic of having it done. It’s obviously there for a reason! Like the old adage says…”If ain’t broke, Don’t fix it!”. So, unless there is a medical reason or necessity, leave it the Fuck alone!

    im not circumcised.

in fact… i dont even have a penis.

The reason the medical establishment had originally supported circumcision was due to poor hygiene. If you clean out any accumulations with a gentle rinse in the shower(no scrubby), the foreskin acts as a bactericidal filter, otherwise overaccumulation can lead to overgrowth of opportunistic bacteria, such as yeast. This can lead to adherence and increase risk of infections, and so on. Use it for its biological purpose and it works, stop wiping your ass and you’ll soon get a urinary tract infection. Should we get that little problem surgically removed?

As for the sexual functions, the foreskin keeps the glans of the penis moist and Sensitive. Yes Phillip, scientific study or not, no foreskin=more glans rubbing against jeans. The nerve endings in the glands reset their sensitivity to much greater forces…forces that don’t feel amazing to a vagina unless its owner frequently scrubs her vagina with a wire brush. Foreskin forces men to get themselves(and partner) wet…otherwise the opening is tight and constricts the glans of the penis causing pain. As for lasting a long time, the presence of a foreskin and frenelum increase sensitivity but are erogenous nerve endings which allow you to sense gradual stages of arousal, rather than induce instant orgasm. Again not a scientific study but, I find having sensitivity feedback gives you more control over your sexual actions.

Religion has led to some of the greatest wrongs in history, and religions constantly evolve from these. As more scientific evidence suggests that circumcision has no biological benefit, and only results in a lot of pain for an infant, religion will once again revise itself to remain in public favour.

I got it done when i was an adult and i did not regret it one bit. Yes it was painful but i think it was worth it. As far a sex it is just the same or even better. I would advise anyone to get it done.

I always assumed that circumcision became prevalent in America as a gesture of solidarity with the persecuted Jews, so that in America they would not be identified the way they were identified by the Nazis. I don’t consider this an important issue. I would not circumcise my boy unless my wife insists on it.

  14. on 16 Dec 2007 at 12:12 amAndy

I was circumcised earlier this year at age 43. This was for medical reasons after I was suspected of having some cancerous tissue. The resultant biopsy revealed I was clear and so I’m now left skinless. Having spent so much time with my foreskin, I can comment on both the before and after. Firstly, Peeing is now a nightmare. I have more chance of winning the lottery than hitting the pan! The foreskin offered some control while now it seems to have a mind of it’s own.
Secondly, my sensitivity is greatly reduced now. I feel that a great proportion of the sensations I felt during sex are now missing. My wife and I were initially excited at the new look and feel of my penis. But now it takes quite specific stimulation, that was probably provided by my foreskin, before I feel the same pleasure. With that said, she does approve of my apparent new found stamina.
Thirdly, having a late age circumcision is a very painful experience with a fair amount of recovery. I managed to tear some stitches in my sleep after getting an erection during the night. It’s been 9 months since I had the op and I still have some tenderness in the scar tissue.
As a final comment, my 6 year old son has a problem with his foreskin retracting so we took him to see a consultant. He told us not to worry and it would probably correct itself before he is 12. We asked if it would be necessary to circumcise him. His answer was as follows:
“The appendix is gradually shrinking. This is normal evolution taking place, with unnecessary components being phased out as generations pass. There is no evidence that the foreskin has changed in size or shape in the history of mankind, so I guess it’s supposed to be there!
As someone once said, if it aint broke don’t fix it.”

I am not circumcised and perfectly ok with it. My son is also not circumcised. There is no medical necessity to have it done, and if anything, it is just a silly jewish tradition.

To anyone that says they have not lost sensation from having a cirumcision — Fucking BS. I can retract my foreskin and walk around in the mall with a constant boner because there is an extreme amount of sensation there. It has been documented that removing the foreskin removes around 5-7 miles of nerve’s and never endings. No loss of sensation my ass.

And the whole argument about not having control during sex and being an early shooter — Also a bunch of fucking BS. It’s about learning control and learning about your partners desires. I can finish in 5 mins or I can finish in an hour — its up to me not my uncircumcised penis.

In fact, my wife and numerous women while I was single commented on it looking nicer and feeling better during intercourse. Think about it, it adds an extra “rib” or “1/2″ inch to your width when it is retracted and inserted.

I will 2nd the previous posters attitude that most men just shove it in and forget it. Like I said previously, its up the the man not the dick that makes a person a better lover.

I was not circumcised as an infant. I chose to have the procedure at age 16. It was the worst month of my life…after which I masturbated for the first time.

When I think of those lost years…..

  17. on 16 Dec 2007 at 2:10 amKG

Poster #16 is a really douche bag. Your small cock got you grief in the locker room, so you decided to mutilate yourself to fit in? Nice choice asshat.

  18. on 16 Dec 2007 at 3:59 amJV

The practice of circumcision was born hundreds of years ago out plain necessity. Back in those days it made hygenic sense to remove the foreskin. Today, most people in civilized countries have their own bathrooms, showers, and very important: soap. Thus, it is an ancient tradition that is outdated and simply not needed anymore in today’s society.

  19. on 16 Dec 2007 at 5:17 amDiglot

Circumcision is sexual mutilation of an infant boy, done for religious/cultural reasons. It should be outlawed. Have you ever watched one? The infant is not even given an aspirin and the surgeon proceeds to cut with what is essentially a soldering iron type device one of the most sensitive areas of the male human body, generating curdling screams from the poor infant (I used to work in hospitals and have seen everything but this was the worst).

The business about hygiene is dubious at best, just learn to retract the prepuce and wash it just like you would wash your hands.

It is a bestial, bloody, backward, unnecesary practice, we outlaw it on girls why not boys. There are only some very specific medical reasons why this procedure may be necessary but it should not be done wholesale to an infant population.

  20. on 16 Dec 2007 at 5:54 amJo

If you didn’t need the skin you wouldn’t be born with it - its good for more protection in sand and rough surfaces - less pain when received, more pleasure, and i like girls peeling it back, you wouldn’t have super human powers if your cut

Circumcision is basically a consmetic procedure it surves no real purpose, but for some reason people are obessed with cutting our dicks. Luckly enough my mom was smart and didn’t give me one,

Hmm, some of you are forgetting about wisdom teeth, tonsils, appendix, extra kidney…

good old religion. It’s amazing what people will do just because a bunch on control freaks say what is right and wrong. Circumcise, don’t eat pork, stand kneel sit, stand kneel sit, point to the east to pray etc. Most of you are a bunch of sheep, who can’t think for yourself.

  24. on 16 Dec 2007 at 10:09 amOrlando

I fail to see how one person’s religious belief can allow permanent, non-consensual body alteration of ANOTHER PERSON (their child). How come circumcision is still allowed whereas if anybody wanted to chop of their child’s little toe because a green fairy told them to, they’d go to jail?

  25. on 16 Dec 2007 at 11:39 ammaria

Here in Europe, only a few men are circumcised. And if I am honest, I prefer uncircumcised penises, for having Sex.

  26. on 17 Dec 2007 at 8:08 pmBilly

To bad though having it cut just looks better… seriously though sometimes uncut can look right but sometimes you have these werid things with wind socks and what not that look horrible…

Just have it pulled back and you’ll be on track.

  27. on 17 Dec 2007 at 11:06 pmjohn doe

infant foreskins are worth a lot of money for biomedical companies. The only people who support circumcision are those who make money off it or are so sexually repressed they don’t want to talk about it and blindly allow their sons to be mutilated. The foreskins is a vital organ, circumcision is surgical rape.

  28. on 18 Dec 2007 at 11:37 amChris

This is somewhat horrifying. I was circumcised when I was a baby, and was told as a teen that it was “healthier” and “helped increase the longevity of a man from orgasm.” I heard though how when my little brother was born, he screamed for hours during and after circumcision. So since my teenage years, I’ve been reading papers and news bits challenging the idea of circumcision as a necessity. I personally feel circumcision is wrong, with the most “convincing” argument a friend gave me was, “well, it looks better”… Cutting up you genitals for aesthetics? Maybe certain groups of people enjoy altering their body, but I doubt the general populace does.

I got married at the age of 20, with a cute and sweet girl. We discovered in sex that even though we’ll go for a good two to three hours, when it comes time for my climax, it takes literal “work.” We’ve tried multiple techniques, among other things. Sure, my “aesthetically pleasing” penis is great, it has turned sex into concentrated work rather than fun for my wife and I [sarcasm intended].

PEOPLE, we all come from jew decendants. whether you like it or not,

we need to become more religous and study-and most importantly understand.

In the old testament people had to be circumsized but in the new testament it reads that it is not required to be circumsized its hard to explain, you have to study for yourselves

  31. on 28 Dec 2007 at 8:34 pmLady

I’m a girl, but I’d just like to say that circumsized penis’ look better than uncircumsized. My ex wasn’t circumsized and he said he had more feelings in his penis and he was glad he wasn’t circumsized. I personally just think it’s easier to keep clean when it has been circumsized, espcially for a baby.

  32. on 03 Jan 2008 at 10:48 pmMary

I think our materialistic way of thinking has taken away a lot of our true nature. Would any of you enjoy cutting a new born baby’s foreskin knowing it is full of major nerve pathways? What the hell do you think is going on in the baby’s first “view” of the world. Maybe they are associating pain with their penis. Doesn’t that trigger anything in anyone’s mind. What if I cut your ear off at birth? What if I cut you little finger off at birth? Major civilized cultures are full of life passages of blood and pain. Maybe this is where it starts at birth. Hurt. Hurt. Anger. Anger. Anger. Betrayal. Let me back in the warm womb. Deaden me. Anger. Flight-fight syndrome. Perfect for future warriors. Yes, maybe it is cleaner. Civilized people are taught how to keep their penis clean. We are not in the desert anymore.

I wish my Mom had not circumsized me. I found out when my Father died at 69, he wasn’t circumsized. my Father won each battle and lost every war. My mom was the hidden power in our family. At 62 years old I would counsel young couples to leave the natural way available for your child. We don’t need to start Life this way. It makes us live from a state of fear, before we can understand anything, we start from pain. This unconscious bias is part of our whole life. It keeps us from being completely undefended and open in our middle years. You must teach anger and hate, it isn’t natural. Why medicine doesn’t help us to be natural I just don’t understand. We seem to hate our bodies and hate our feelings. Being insecure allows us to be easily controlled and manipulated. Of course in the future this will be recognized and respected, and we will all be more sensitive and creatively intelligent. For now we are just suffering and waiting for the world to change. For those who were not lucky, read about enneagrams and understand your uncounscious. I am a seven enneagram type, acting happy but doing that from a base of fear, in a reaction. I can now change my orientation to one of surrender and love. Love is the answer to all issues. Buddhism is the path to knowledge. and so it is. Peace to all.

Hi guys well what a debate, I was cut when I was 29, and was cut again when I was 47, I have only one regret, the reason I got cut the 2nd time was that the first one was done with scissors ouch! yes well after the op, and the stiches well you could have caught a shark with the thickness of the cat gut, dreadful, or what!! and there was forskin over the glands more so to the left hand side, I guess he the surgeon was right handed, anyway there was tunneling which I hated, and as I was an artists model always in the nude I became aware of this, kind of lop sided affair, so got cut again this time in the good old USA, well hate the cut still more skin on the left side, cut line too near the gland etc , and more tunneling hate it, I no longer do modelling, my regret ah well pity my mom didnt cut me as a baby, would I turn the clock back? no being cut is to me better than keeping it, I believe it is your choice, but , if I had a child and he was a boy!! yes I would have him cut, simple as that.

There are people here that say well it is natural to have a forskin yes I agree, but is it natural for you and I to have cancer cells? or for you or I to get diseases, if it is okay fine lie down and die no medication no nothing for you.like
two babies joined at the hips leave them leave them to die or do you free them, there is a big gap between what I am saying question ? do u use after shave why?? do u have lipo why do u have c injections why? have u had a face lift? u will want one by the time u read this post LOL ever had implants?? why r u guys so fat is that ssoooooo anatural bollocks keep cutting them the more the better best regards Paul

Unfortunately, with every single uncircumsised male I have known sexually, there has been a very unpleasant odour and taste problem. So, Let these uncircumsided guys say sex is better for them . . . big deal, because it is certainly LESS pleasant for their partners.
. . and yes they ALL claimed like you uncut fellas reading this that they kept it clean . . . . - Well not clean enough buddies!

im not circumcised and dont see anything wrong with it. mr. the only jewhere needs to stop forcing his ideals on others….the rude prick. as far as the less clean thing goes….its not that hard to keep clean….but you have to clean it just as much as anything else .i dont know how to comment on the more feeling during sex thing…mabe we uncuts do feel more….i think we wouldnt have foreskin if it was detramental to our health…..if it were….there would be no europeans left…

I was circumcised as an infant, so I have never known what it feels like to have foreskin. Most of my friends and family are also circumcised (I’m American, by the way).

However, many of my circumcised friends have mentioned “tearing of the skin” as a problem during intercourse. I myself have not encountered a problem with this, but I can see how it might happen.

Also, one of my cousins is uncircumcised and he says that his foreskin is one of the most sensitve parts of his penis and cannot imagine functioning without it. He also mentioned how sensitive his glans was when exposed. It makes me wonder if being circumcised is such a great thing after all.

The only problem I can see with being uncircumcised is possibly (and I said POSSIBLY) poor hygiene. However, this issue could probably be rendered moot with a bar of soap and a little elbow grease.
